My name is Carlos de la Barrera. I'm a Chilean architect from U. Mayor, Chile. I moved to Barcelona in 2003 to learn about biological strategies applied to architectural design. In 2005, I completed my master's degree and began studying programming to apply Genetic Algorithms and Emergent behaviors in architectural design.
In 2008, I won the Rafael Escola scholarship to research and develop Genetic Algorithms. During my PhD, I developed a series of mathematical models based on Darwin's Natural Selection to evolve optimal solutions at different architectural scales: urban design, building design, space layout floor plans, and sustainability optimization.
In my 20 years of experience, I have applied intelligent algorithms to real projects, such as designing the facade of a building in Madrid and the bowl of an arena in Abu Dhabi. And in the last 10 years, I have focused on designing and developing computational methods for the entertainment and sports industry. Always balancing practice with research in Design Emergente.
I founded Design Emergente to provide optimal solutions to design problems through Artificial Intelligence.

Design Emergente
Design : A geometric representation showing how a building or product is to be made and how it will work and look.
Emergente : The result of a self-organization system emerge as a robust and adaptive organization.
